The North Valley Coalition has been committed to protecting the health of families and the environment in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years. We got our start as Dump-the-Dump, and later we incorporated under the NVC banner. Our accomplishments range from preserving parklands (Santa Clarita Woodlands) to helping to close other City landfills (Mission, Rustic, Sullivan, Lopez Canyon, Bradley), and to stop toxic waste incinerators (LANCER). We were also successful in helping to close Sunshine Canyon Landfill Cityside but only for 15 years (1991 – 2006) and for keeping the County side in check since 1995.
Of utmost importance to all of our members, is our ongoing fight to oppose the ongoing expansions of the Sunshine Canyon Landfill, to hold the various owners BFI, Allied Waste, and now Republic Industries accountable for violations of their Solid Waste Facilities Permit (SWFP), the City’s “Q” Conditions and the County Conditional Use Permit (CUP). For the past 10 years we have been trying to make the City, County, and the State take action against the landfill for the odor
problems that have severely impacted our community on an almost daily basis.
The North Valley Coalition is a NON-PROFIT 501(c)3 organization of dedicated volunteers who receive no compensation for their labor and involvement.
We depend solely on volunteers and contributions from individuals and organizations. We need your help!
